Assisting in a criminal act. The two words differ in one way: abetting involves knowledge that the assisting is wrong. Aiding refers only to helping the commission of a wrongful act and doesn’t necessarily include awareness and intention to commit a crime. Sometimes one can help a crime without being aware that one is doing so; this distinction can have important consequences during a criminal trial.
