An illegal securities-buying firm. The broker takes the investor’s money but doesn’t buy the security for the customer; instead, the broker hopes the market goes down so that he or she can buy the securities at a lower price and then keep the difference. Tighter laws and regulations have caused this type of firm to disappear.
