Also known as a contingent deferred sales charge (CDSC), a sales charge that is levied when one sells shares in a mutual fund. The charge, expressed as a percentage of investment, is usually reduced the longer one keeps one’s money in the fund. CDSCs are used as an incentive for investors to keep money invested in the fund.
